YABA:
Driving Growth, Connection and Opportunity

DIASPORA MATTERS

Ethnic minority communities are a powerful driver of the UK economy.
Ethnic minority‑led businesses contribute at least £74 billion annually to the UK economy and employ nearly 3 million people, representing around one‑sixth of all UK businesses (OPEN / MSDUK, 2021). [msduk.org.uk]
People from ethnic minority backgrounds are nearly twice as likely to be engaged in early‑stage entrepreneurship compared with the White population (19.1% vs 10.4%), making them the most entrepreneurial demographic group in the UK (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor UK, 2024). [wbs.ac.uk]
Research shows that better support for ethnic minority businesses could unlock up to £100 billion in additional annual economic value, highlighting the scale of untapped potential within the UK’s diaspora‑led enterprise ecosystem (Aston University / NatWest, 2022). [gemconsortium.org]
These figures demonstrate why supporting ethnic minority enterprise is not only a social imperative, but an economic necessity for sustainable growth, innovation, and global competitiveness.
